Robert Burgoyne

Managing Director/Contracts

Robert co-founded Single Ply Services Ltd in 2003 with his late father Tony Burgoyne. He has been responsible for managing major projects primarily in the schools, student accommodation and new build hotel sectors. In 2010 he became Contracts Director and continued his role as a project manager as well as managing a growing office and site-based workforce. In 2018 he was appointed Managing Director for the company. You’ll be surprised to learn that Rob once had a job as a lion keeper in Africa!

Jon Burgoyne

QA Director/Contracts

Jon first joined the company as a single ply fixer. He continued to work ‘on the tools’ (in between attending college/university) until becoming a contracts manager in 2009. He became a director of the company in 2014. He runs projects of all types and sizes and oversees QA and environmental procedures for the company. In his spare time he likes to spend time with his wife, two children and pet Miniature Schnauzer in Clevedon. Many, many years ago Jon earned a living selling donuts on the beaches of France!

Robin Hambly

Sales Director / Contracts

Robin joined the company in 2004 after serving in the Royal Navy as a weapons operator, maintainer and instructor. He originally joined as a single ply fixer but has steadily worked his way up to the position of Sales Director. He is responsible for overseeing and developing the sales/estimating and business development side of the business with Simon and Ethan as well as running projects of all types & sizes alongside Robert and Jon. When not working Robin loves spending time with his wife & two children (especially if it involves watching Bristol Bears Rugby or taking their Sprocker for walks!). He is also an avid long-distance runner and is currently chasing the elusive sub 3 hour marathon!! In his Navy days Robin had the honour of leading a platoon of D Day veterans for a march past “eyes left” to senior members of the royal family at the 60-year anniversary.

Gary Reader

Contracts Supervisor/Small Works Manager

Gary started his roofing career as a pitched roofer before quickly seeing the error of his ways and converting to flat roofing. With 35 years’ experience in flat roofing he is an invaluable part of the contracts team. He is able to offer the benefit of his experience not only to the SPS site workforce but also to the site management teams. Gary is responsible for progress, safety and QA checks out on site. Gary is an avid supporter of his ‘local’ football team Manchester United.

Simon Smith

Sales Manager / Estimator

Simon has been in the roofing industry for nearly 20 years. He cut his teeth in the slate sector with Cembrit Blunn before moving into flat roofing systems with Alwitra. Before joining SPS he spent a decade in the living roof sector with Sky Garden and Eco Green Roofs and helped pioneer a shift into podium deck landscaping. He joined us in October 2018 and works alongside Robin and Ethan in the sales and estimating department. In his spare time Simon likes to cook meals from scratch and often fills the office with aromas from around the world with his leftovers for lunch.

Ethan Brooks

Trainee Estimator

Ethan is our Trainee Estimator and has worked at the company since 2017. He is studying a Level 3 National Diploma and is planning to go on to do an HNC qualification. Once qualified he would like to progress to a Quantity Surveyor/Estimator role. He works closely with Simon in the sales department but helps in all areas of the business. Ethan is the unofficial ‘IT guy’ in the office and is often called upon to assist those of more advanced years.

Rachel Burgoyne

Accounts Manager

Rachel joined the company in 2008 as accounts support working alongside her husband Rob and father-in-law Tony. Before joining SPS Rachel spent 13 years in airport terminal management heading a large operational team and promoting organisational and leadership skills. In 2010 Rachel came on board full time and took up the role of Accounts Manager, working alongside Alex and later Julia Burgoyne. Rachel brings her beloved Labrador Nala to work each day and once had a game of Tug of War with a Boeing 737 to raise funds for Red Nose Day!

Julia Burgoyne

Accounts Assistant

Julia joined SPS in 2016 initially working on retention recovery. She increased her part time role to 3 days a week when taking on responsibility for the purchase ledger. She is our point of contact for supplier invoices and queries. Before joining SPS Julia worked as a manager for a major UK telecoms provider. Outside of work she enjoys swimming and spending time with her family in Clevedon.

Alex Burgoyne

Admin Assistant

Alex works part time as our Administration Assistant. She joined the company in its formative years working alongside Tony in the original Clevedon office. Alex is a personal trainer so, when she’s not at SPS, you may spot her out and about training clients in Clevedon!
